Mentoring programmes at the University of Pardubice aim at the professional and personal development of doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers as well as early-career academic and research staff helping them develop their research potential, creativity, innovation and enhance their self-confidence and overcome any research-related obstacles they may face.

The mentoring programme includes three types of activities:

  • Individual mentoring involves one-to-one meetings with an experienced mentor who shares his or her knowledge or experience that may help the mentee to guide and develop the mentee’s professional career. Such mentoring may cover setting career goals, sharing research or teaching experience, dealing with administrative, professional or interpersonal issues, choosing a study or research stay abroad, arranging important professional contacts and helping with achieving the work-life balance. Support has many forms.
  • Peer mentoring involves sharing experience among peers. It is a less formal type of mentoring involving sharing experience between more experienced and less experienced peers such as more advanced and less advanced doctoral students, introducing new employees to the team (research team, department) by senior colleagues etc.
  • Group training has the form of seminars, lectures and workshops aimed at developing soft skills and thus enabling the participants to engage in professional and personal development. Mentees take part in the seminars and lectures on a voluntary basis. Taking party in group activities makes it possible for the mentee to meet other colleagues and thus share experience and discuss any issues they may have with other mentees. Please see the tab Workshop/Lectures for the events that we organize.

The mentoring programme is available during the academic year from October to June for both Czech and international doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers and early-career academic and research staff at the University of Pardubice.

You may either sign up using the REGISTRATION FORM or write to the coordinator at jana.kremenakova@upce.cz.

The mentoring programme is available during the academic year from October to June and the first step to take is an introductory workshop where the mentees may think about areas where they need to develop their career or advance in their studies, as well as about who may act as their mentor or they may even meet their mentor and draw up their mentoring plan.

The introductory workshop for the 4th mentoring year will take place on October 22, 2024, from 1 PM to 4 PM in the rectorate building (meeting room, 4th floor).

Come and meet the mentors, listen to the experiences of mentees from previous years, and find out what mentoring can offer you. The workshop will be led by Mgr. Kateřina Cidlinská, Ph.D.

You can register here: Introductory Workshop

You may sign up for the mentoring programme even without attending the introductory workshop, but remember that meeting your colleagues is the best way to meet new people and share feedback.

Before attending the workshop, read the Mentoring Guide or contact our team (Mentoring Documents tab).

Your mentor should help you develop your skills, enhance your performance, deal with any issues you may have and achieve goals in the field of your choice. It is critical that you trust the mentor. You can choose a mentor from another department, faculty or even someone outside the university.

You may have already chosen your mentor, or you may refer to the list of mentors available under the Mentors tab. If you are unable to choose your mentor here, we will be happy to help you.

As part of the HR Strategy of the University of Pardubice project, a mentoring system for doctoral students was introduced in 2022-2021; it was designed to provide systematic support and professional guidance by senior colleagues, to enhance the research and development conditions, and engage in professional development and long-term career building.

After the project terminated, the programme continues to exist and includes a new from called PhD School
